"Who are you?"said the man,not really expecting much of a response.
The fox tilted its head,smiled
to itself and spoke without words."I am Fox,is that not obvious?"
Fox turned to look at the
fire, sniffed the air and turned back to the man,"Who are you?"
The Man started to answer but stopped, "I...I'm not really sure."
Fox lay down by the warmth of the campfire, "its a simple question..."
The man shrugged "not all simple questions yeald simple answers".
Fox grinned,"true"
The man poked at the fire with a small stick "I could give you my name, but
then I
woulden't really know which name to give you,I have many names depending on
who I meet during the day and what
people I am with."
"That must get confusing." Said the fox. "Whats in a name anyway?
They don't really tell me who you are"
The man looked up at the night sky,it was a clear night and the millions of
stars shone down like so many
seemingly tiny diamonds, the moon was new and hung low in the sky. "I realise
that now, they are starting to seem like masks".
The Fox turned to the man "Then why do you hide behind these masks? I
thought only Shamans and See'rs wore them."
"I worry" Said the man,"I am afraid they woulden't be intrested
in me if they knew who I really was."
"I see" said the Fox as his ears twitched to the sound of the crackling
fire,"your own fear created them to hide
yourself behind. But in doing so, you are lost."
The man looked into the distance and slowly nodded,a hint of sadness in his
eyes.
Fox started to wash its paw,"Well, the answer is simple isn't it?"
"Is it?" asked the man. "Of course!" Exclaimed Fox "Stop
using these masks and be true to yourself and everyone you meet."
The man sighed "that would be difficult". The Fox perked up "
I have an idea, invite everyone you know to a big feast.
you will have a good opertunity to be yourself."
The man thought for a few seconds, then looked at Fox "I suppose its worth
a try" he said. Fox stood up
and streatched,"of course, anyway I must go hunt now. When you are ready, come
back to this place and I will
ask you who you are!"
The man nodded,"Thanks for the advice."
...And like that, the Fox vanished into the wilderness.
